Plastic Wrap Cutter
RESEARCH
During the research, we found that we could target the visitors of Sino shopping malls, near the recycle bins. Providing upcycling products inside the mall could help build the image of Sino as an eco-friendly company, also provide a great chance to the public of what is upcycling and why we need to do so.
BACKGROUND
The Sino Group invited the PolyU design students to create upcycling designs to help the Sino Group recycle plastic waste and give them a new life. The designs are required to be made by recycled plastic provided by Sino, either HDPE or PP plastic.

RECYCLE AND MAKING PROCESS
After collecting plastic materials from Sino Group, we have to clean, shred, and melt the plastic pieces. The Sino group provide a plastic shredding machine and a melting-compressing machine, to let students try to make the plastic products in small scale production.

WHY UPCYCLING?
Recycling plastic takes 88% less energy than producing plastics from new raw materials. Also, by the LCA calculation comparison, which includes the cost of material and transportation, our upcycling product only costs 40% resource of the existing product.

Example of the metal board, provide information on how to use and information on Green.
The metal board could be placed near the recycle bins in the mall, and the plastic wrap cutters with magnet could behold on the board for use.

Their tails can help users to cut off the plastic around the cap before throwing it into the recycling bin.
Whale & Starfish
Users can use their little blades the cut the wrapping papers of the plastic bottle in a safe and convenient way.
The Ocean Savers are designed as a safe cutter for cutting the plastic wrap off the plastic bottle.
We encourage users to recycle their used plastic bottles daily basic and educate them with the correct steps of recycling. As most of the people may not know, plastic wrap should be removed before recycling.
HOW TO MAKE GUIDE
The How To Make Guide is a process guide for the Sino Group to understand how the product is made in the recycling process and how we used the machine to make it. The Guide is written with detailed steps, and also illustrations for easy understanding.
